It is highly recommended that essential oils be combined with carrier oils such as the natural oils which will be defined later in this page.

Essential Oils that will work for the No Dandruff Challenge include:

Tea Tree Oil – Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic that originated in Australia. The unique feature of tea tree oil is that it becomes more potent at the site of infection. Dead skin cells that cause flakes are full of bacteria and infectious agents. Tea tree oil helps clear the bacteria that leave unsightly flakes on your scalp.

Peppermint Oil – Peppermint oil contains menthol, which is good for skin and gives a cooling effect while stimulating blood circulation on the scalp. Due to its pH balancing qualities, peppermint oil can also be used to remedy dry scalp and dandruff, removing any itching sensation as it neutralizes the dryness on the scalp itself

Essential oil MUST KNOW:

Because of their concentrated nature, essential oils generally should not be applied directly to the skin in their undiluted or “neat” form. Some can cause severe irritation, provoke an allergic reaction and, over time, prove toxic. They must be diluted with passive carrier oils before ingestion or topical application.

Essential oils can be diluted in carrier oils for the purpose of adding benefits to the skin and reducing the volatility of the essential oil. Carrier oils can be used on their own, as they carry their own properties. All are able to be absorbed into skin and hair alike, except for mineral oil. Carrier oils are BEST used in their most natural state – purchase cold pressed.
